million ways to die in the westUniversal

One of the better jokes in the past couple of days -- at least if you're a big ole nerd and work in the periphery of the movie business -- was a script floating around that reportedly was "The Hateful Eight," the abandoned Quentin Tarantino project. Only, after the title page, you realized that it wasn't "The Hateful Eight" at all, but rather a draft of the forthcoming Seth MacFarlane western "A Million Ways to Die in the West." Good one, whoever you are! Potentially piggybacking on this sideways buzz is a new photo from MacFarlane's new film, featuring MacFarlane, Neil Patrick Harris, Amanda Seyfried and Charlize Theron.

The best part of the new photo (via Bleeding Cool) besides Harris's upturned mustache, is the fact that Theron is packing lead -- two six shooters by the looks of it. Also, why is Amanda Seyfried so covered up? Isn't this the type of movie that would encourage lusty heaving bosoms? Or no?

"A Million Ways to Die in the West," which co-stars Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sarah Silverman, none of whom made this particular photo op, was co-written, produced, and directed by MacFarlane, who will mercifully be staying away from this year's Oscar telecast. The official synopsis follows:

After a cowardly sheep farmer [Seth MacFarlane] backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend [Amanda Seyfried] leaves him for another man [Neil Patrick Harris]. When a mysterious and beautiful woman [Charlize Theron] rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

The film marks MacFarlane's highly anticipated big-screen follow-up to "Ted" and will be out May 30.
