Warner Bros.'s "Tarzan" reboot now has an official release date: It will swing into theaters on July 1, 2016.
The film, directed by David Yates (the "Harry Potter" series), stars Alexander Skarsgard as the titular vine-swinger. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, and Margot Robbie ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), who'll play Tarzan's love interest, Jane.
"Tarzan," based on the classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, tells the story of a man who was abandoned in the jungle as a baby and grew up there; he later ventures into the urban jungle of London to see civilization for the first time.
"Tarzan has been an enduring and enigmatic figure in literature and cinema for more than a century," said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing and international distribution at Warner Bros. "The adventures of a man who was torn between two worlds has entertained and intrigued people young and old, and we are excited to bring him to the screen for a new generation."
The film will be released in 3D. It will go head-to-head against the "Angry Birds" movie and "Independence Day 2."
