Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week
What's It About? A routine space walk goes horribly awry when space debris smashes into the shuttle, leaving a medical engineer (Sandra Bullock) and an astronaut (George Clooney) a mere 90 minutes to make it to the International Space Station.
Why We're IN: Even though you won't be getting the whole IMAX 3D experience of being alone in space with Sandy Bullock, you'll still feel crazy anxious about the fate of her character. Plus, Alfonso Cuarón and his crew have snagged tons of awards and Oscar nominations for this sci-fi chiller.

"Tess" (Criterion)
What's It About? Roman Polanski's take on Thomas Hardy's classic novel "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" is a Victorian drama about a lower class peasant (Nastassja Kinski) who runs into all sorts of trouble when her father discovers they might be of nobler lineage than they thought.
Why We're IN: This adaptation gets the full Criterion treatment, with a digital restoration, making-of doc, and more. A tragic, lyrical tale.

"Blue is the Warmest Color"
What's It About? As a teen, Adèle (Adèle Exarchopoulos) falls in love with a beautiful artist with blue hair named Emma (Léa Seydoux). "Blue" is about those crazy feelings of first real love, its highs and lows, growing up and apart, and lots of spaghetti Bolognese.
IN or OUT: This French drama has gotten lots of people chattering because of its graphic sexual content and the public feuding between its stars and director Abdellatif Kechiche, but that overlooks the wrenching, coming-of-age love story at its heart. In.

"Mr. Nobody"
What's It About? Mortality, identity, the many possible paths our lives could have taken. You know, the usual. Jared Leto stars as Nemo Nobody, the last mortal human on earth.
IN or OUT: Although "Mr. Nobody" was sitting on a dusty shelf somewhere since 2009, it's gotten a pretty good response from the folks who have seen in. If you like indie sci-fi, you're in.

What's It About? Bruce Dern, Will Forte, and June Squibb star in this meandering black-and-white family drama about a grumbly senior citizen (Dern) who's determined to collect his sweepstakes winnings. His son (Forte) gamely drives him to Nebraska despite the doomed nature of the whole enterprise. Squibb steals the show as the plain-talking matriarch.
IN or OUT: Alexander Payne fans aren't the only ones going crazy for this slow road trip film.

"Thor: The Dark World"
What's It About? The dark elves are back, and they are ticked off. Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) wants to make the whole darn universe as dark as his little elf heart, and it's up to Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to stop him.
IN or OUT: This is an improvement on the first "Thor," but it's still a mega-blockbuster superhero tale. If that's not your bag, keep on moving.

New to Blu-ray
"King of the Hill" (Criterion)
What's It About? Steven Soderbergh's third film is an adaptation of the Depression-era memoir by A.E. Hotchner. A 12-year-old boy has to rely on his wits when he's left alone in a hotel while his father is away on business and his mom is in a sanitarium with TB. Jesse Bradford stars, and the supporting cast includes Adrien Brody, the late Spalding Gray, Elizabeth McGovern, and Katherine Heigl.
IN or OUT: This is one of Soderbergh's lesser-known films, but it's definitely worth checking out. It also comes with Soderbergh's follow-up, "The Underneath."

"The Shadow" (Collector's Edition)
What's It About? This is a weird superhero spin on the character known as The Shadow, who was introduced as a narrator of a radio show in the '30 and is also the subject of various novels and comics, and several films. This one stars Alec Baldwin as The Shadow and his alter ego Lamont Cranston, who has to stop his number one enemy from building an atomic bomb.
IN or OUT: "The Shadow" was pretty much a bomb, although it certainly has its fans. Worth a rental, maybe.
