get on up trailer james brown
The Godfather of Soul will loom larger than life this summer in the upcoming biopic about James Brown's life, "Get on Up."

A new trailer hits all the quality biopic checkboxes: Difficult childhood? Check. Rebellious youth? Check. Contentious personal life? Check. Maverick style that translates into success? Check.

Chadwick Boseman (who knows his way around a biopic, after playing Jackie Robinson in last year's "42") embodies the singer, from his early days in juvie to his breakout as a music star. And if the movie seems a bit formulaic, it also looks like a raucous good time. And come on, there's a reason Brown's songs were such hits.

"Get on Up" also stars Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, and Lennie James, and opens in theaters August 1.
