"Chronicle 2" is moving forward, and now has a new writer attached.

Deadline reports that Jack Stanley, a 25-year-old Hollywood newcomer with no produced screenplays under his belt yet, has nabbed the job. He'll script the follow-up to the 2012 sci-fi hit, which generated tons of buzz and made more than ten times its $12 million budget at the box office.

Stanley reportedly landed the coveted gig on the strength of one of his screenplays, "Sweetheart," the story of a female assassin that landed on the prestigious Black List, which highlights the top unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. That film is now moving forward, as is another one of his scripts, a werewolf flick called "Silver." It seems it won't be long before everyone knows his name.

"Chronicle 2" has finally gained some momentum after original director Josh Trank departed the series to focus on the "Fantastic Four" reboot, and original writer Max Landis was removed from the project due to creative differences with studio Fox. Here's hoping Stanley can get this version of the sequel off the ground.
