leprechaun origins trailerA reboot of campy horror flick "Leprechaun" has been in the works for a while now, and at long last, the film has a trailer.

In the first promo for "Leprechaun: Origins," a young group of friends touring the remote Irish countryside get more than they bargain for when they venture into a quaint village and are promptly terrorized by the film's titular mystical -- and in this case, murderous -- creature. While viewers don't get a clear look at the leprechaun (played by WWE star Hornswoggle), his presence certainly seems meant to appear more menacing than that of the original "Leprechaun," played by Warwick Davis.

Indeed, the trailer promises that "a horror icon will be reborn," and based on all the screaming and panicked expressions, things certainly seem darker than the leprechaun we last saw in 2000's "Leprechaun: In the Hood," which co-starred Ice-T.

This clip features an old man ominously telling the young protagonists that "there's a lot of things about our village that people don't know about; a lot of things ... we like to keep quiet." Odds are that a maniac leprechaun is one of them.

"Leprechaun: Origins" hits VOD, Digital HD, and Pay-Per-View on August 26.
