These are the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" you grew up with.
A new trailer for the live-action version of "TMNT"proves that, although this movie is directed by Jonathan Liebsman, it's a Michael Bay production through and through. There are a lot of explosions, action, gadgets, and citywide destruction, but no pizza and no cowabunga. It's "Ninja Turtles" for the next generation.
It's the first real look we've gotten at Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. These turtles are brawny and muscular, definitely ready to take on Shredder and his goons. (But the trailer left us a little confused -- is William Fichtner playing Shredder or not?) In any case, the turtles team up with reporter April O'Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman (Will Arnett) to save their city from Shredder's mayhem.
As with most Bay movies, there's some corny dialogue and everything seems to happen at a frenetic pace -- think "Transformers: Turtle Time."
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" opens in theaters August 8.
