apehoodThis weekend, two of the year's very best movies are hitting theaters. One is Richard Linklater's "Boyhood," a sensitive, down-to-earth drama that took twelve years to film; the other is "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," a 3D studio extravaganza that features a whole platoon of anthropomorphic apes. Still, they're both very much worth watching, both examples of the seemingly limitless possibilities of cinema, both visually and emotionally. And now, they've been brought together in a super clever mash-up video.

Below you'll find "Apehood," a video made by our buddy Nelson Carvajal, that combines footage from "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and this week's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," with the basic structure and heart-tugging music from the "Boyhood" trailer. It is, in a word, genius -- and every bit worthy of the two amazing movies it is (pardon the pun) aping.

Any more explanation would ruin the fun, so just watch the trailer. And keep in mind that "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Boyhood" are both in theaters this weekend. You know where to purchase your tickets...
