A new trailer for season four of "Homeland" is here, and with it, the promise of plenty of anguish for CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who's headed out on assignment to the Middle East while also juggling the challenges of new motherhood.
After an eventful third season, Brody (Damien Lewis) is dead, Carrie has given birth to his baby, and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) has left the CIA for a private sector job. Season four finds our heroine setting off for Afghanistan and Pakistan, as those close to her wonder why she'd leave home so soon after giving birth.
Whatever the answer to that question is, Carrie finds plenty to keep her occupied overseas, including violence -- some of it targeting her -- and turmoil plaguing the regions where she's working. Her fellow agent, Peter (Rupert Friend), is already burned out, declaring at one point, "I just want out. I'm done."
Carrie plays her cards a little closer to her chest, claiming, "It's a job" when talking about her dangerous assignment. But audiences know that that job means so much more to her than she's letting on.
The fourth season of "Homeland" premieres on Showtime on October 5.
