Christian Bale
The upcoming live-action adaptation of "The Jungle Book: Origins" is getting an increasingly fancy cast.

The directorial debut of mo-cap master Andy Serkis has added Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Christian Bale to a star-studded lineup that already includes Benedict Cumberbatch,Tom Hollander, Peter Mullan, Naomie Harris, and Eddie Marsan. Rohan Chand, who co-starred in "Bad Words," will play Mowgli.

Bale will take on the role of a panther named Bagheera, alongside Serkis as Baloo the bear; together, they'll keep Mowgli safe from the fearsome jaws of Shere Khan, a tiger voiced by Cumberbatch. Blanchett will play Kaa, a powerful python. Growly indie actor Peter Mullan will play the alpha male of the wolf pack that raises young Mowgli, alongside Harris and Marsan as fellow wolves. Hollander will play a jackal who's one of Shere Khan's henchmen. Hopefully, the BTS features for "The Jungle Book" will feature lots of scenes of the actors writhing around in mo-cap suits like wild animals.

Jon Favreau's upcoming adaptation of "The Jungle Book" is going to give Serkis' version a real run for its money, especially in the sexy voice department. Idris Elbahas been cast as Shere Khan, and Scarlett Johansson will play Kaa. Incidentally, Kaa is typically a male character, as per Rudyard Kipling's original stories and later onscreen iterations, so it's notable that both Favreau and Serkis decided to switch it up a bit. Now that's what we call accentuating the positive.
