Nostalgia seems to be the name of the game with TV networks as of late, with classic Fox series "Married... With Children" considering a spinoff of its own.
E! reports that a new "Married" series would focus on the character of Bud Bundy, played by David Faustino in the original show, and his own family. Faustino is reportedly on board for the reboot, and other original cast members may follow suit.
The former costars staged a reunion Tuesday when "Married" matriarch Katey Sagal received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with Faustino, Ed O'Neill, and Christina Applegate all on hand to support Sagal. There, Applegate alluded to a possible on-screen Bundy reunion.
"We're going to do something with Dave maybe. I don't know if it will be in character," Applegate told E!. "But I don't really know. I don't know what that's going to be. I don't know if I'm allowed to speak on that at all. So I should probably stop talking about it right now!"
O'Neil would be out for a spinoff series, since he's currently contracted to the ABC hit "Modern Family." But Sagal just wrapped her series run on outgoing FX drama "Sons of Anarchy," so perhaps she could pop up on the new "Married"?
"We've talked about [a reunion] every year, but then there are so many pieces that have to be in alignment that for some reason it never happens," Sagal told E! on Tuesday. "But we love each other. Well, we're all working now, so it's hard to find the time!"
So far, the only detail about the spinoff is that Sony Pictures TV is pitching a pilot to the networks, though there's no info yet on who would be writing or producing the project. But reboots and spinoffs are hot properties lately, with the success of "Boy Meets World" follow-up "Girl Meets World," and the potential return of "Full House."
"Married," which ran from 1987 to 1997 on Fox, has as good a chance as any of those shows to rise from the nostalgia ashes. Stay tuned.
