Her death was confirmed by her nephew, Latino-Review writer Mario-Francisco Robles, in a touching obituary posted today. She died October 14 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Peña's manager, Gina Rugolo, said the actress died after a brief battle with an undisclosed illness.

Peña's notable film roles include "*batteries not included," "Lone Star," "La Bamba," "Jacob's Ladder," "Rush Hour," and Pixar's "The Incredibles." You may also know her from her very memorable guest appearances as Gloria's mother in "Modern Family."

She is survived by her husband and two children.
