The World Premiere Of Marvel's Epic Space Adventure After "Guardians of the Galaxy" was such a smash hit for Marvel and Disney, how will director James Gunn top himself for the sequel?

"It's going to be a really surprising open. What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes," Gunn revealed. "In really horribly brutal fashion."

HE KIDS. He's totally kidding.

Gunn was joking around today about "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" at Variety's Entertainment and Technology Summit. But the director did reveal some actual tidbits about the follow-up, notably that all five main characters would return and that some new members might be added to the team.

"I spent all day on Aug. 1, the day the first movie was released, writing 'Guardians 2.' I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one," he said. "I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story."

One thing his universe doesn't include? Galaxies far, far away. Even though "Guardians" and "Star Wars" share a corporate parent in Disney, don't expect them to cross over.

"'Star Wars' was a long time ago," Gunn noted. "It would have to be time travel."

These are superheroes, though - maybe something can be arranged?
