Game of ThronesThe cast of "Game of Thrones" is so massive that it's a wonder the HBO drama is able to juggle all of their storylines. Perhaps the tapestry has gotten too complicated, though, as one major character will sit out season 5.

As previously reported, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) will not star in the upcoming season of "Game of Thrones." The news was leaked by his fellow actor, Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor.

The decision seemed to make sense, as Bran's storyline on the show had caught up with the last of George R.R. Martin's books. And co-showrunner David Benioff confirms that is indeed the reason why Wright won't be featured.

"We're trying to keep the various storylines the same as the books and trying to keep them roughly [chronologically] parallel," Benioff told Entertainment Weekly. "So if we pushed him forward this season, then he's way ahead of where the other characters are."

Last we saw Bran, he and his companions - including Hodor and Meera Reed - had found the Three-Eyed Raven (in the form of a wizened old man).

"He's now entering a training period which is going to take quite some time, much of which isn't particularly cinematic," Benioff noted. "So rather than being stuck in a cave for a year, we figured it would be interesting to leave him out for a little bit."

And though Bran has been an integral part of the show in the past four seasons, his absence may not be felt much, considering the abundance of other storylines. Not only that, this season will introduce even more new characters (the Sand Snakes) and locations (Dorne).

Bran, we'll catch you on the flip side.
