At long last, the final, full trailer for "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" is here, and it's just as sweeping and epic as you'd imagined.
"Five Armies" is the third and final installment of the "Hobbit" series, which brings together the residents of Middle Earth to duke it out for world domination, following the defeat of the dragon Smaug (or "The Desolation of Smaug," if you will). While the sprawling fight is described as "a plan long in the making," that phrase could easily apply to the "Hobbit" films themselves, which took director Peter Jackson years to get off the ground and into theaters.
At one point during the trailer, the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) asks a group of warriors, "How shall this day end?" Moviegoers eager to see how Jackson and co. plan to wrap up the big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy masterpiece are no doubt wondering the same thing.
"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" hits theaters on December 17.
