There had been some confusion Monday over just where the clip would be shown, after theater chain Regal posted, then quickly deleted, a list of locations that would screen the teaser. Clearly, Regal jumped the gun, and it's not the only chain where the clip can be viewed, though as director J.J. Abrams noted in a subsequent tweet, it's still only available in select theaters.
Our original story, including details from Abrams about the teaser's length, is below.
Rumors that the first teaser trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is set to hit theaters this weekend have been confirmed -- but it's still unclear just where audiences will be able to see the clip.
The Regal Entertainment Group theater chain kicked things off Monday morning with a post listing nine cities in which the teaser was set to screen. But after the news went viral, Regal quickly took down the original list, instead replacing it with a "Star Wars"-themed meme insinuating that it had jumped the gun by revealing that information.
A Monday afternoon post by J.J. Abrams on his Bad Robot production company's Twitter page clarified things slightly, with the director offering a handwritten note explaining that a teaser was indeed on its way over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The clip, Abrams added, will clock in at 88 seconds long, and feature "a tiny peek at what we're working on."

Abrams also reiterated Regal's "select theaters" mantra, though it's unclear if the nine originally posted on the chain's website are still the only planned places in which the teaser will run. Here's the initial list that Regal provided:
Irvine, CA: Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX
San Diego, CA: Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Atlanta, GA: Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Chicago, IL: Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX
New York, NY: Regal Union Square Stadium 14
Warrington, PA: Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX
Knoxville, TN: Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Houston, TX: Edwards Houston Marq'E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX
Seattle, WA: Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX
Stay tuned to see if Regal and/or Abrams reveal any more information. We're tingling with anticipation over getting our first glimpse of the "Force Awakens" gang in action.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is due in theaters on December 18, 2015.
