Marvel's Netflix footprint is expanding, with the latest actor cast in its planned four series crossover event.
Mike Colter ("The Good Wife") will play superhero Luke Cage, who'll make his debut in the 2015 Netflix series "A.K.A. Jessica Jones," starring Krysten Ritter ("Breaking Bad," "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23"). Colter as Cage will appear on "Jones" before going on to star in his own series.
During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage - a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.
Melissa Rosenberg, showrunner for "Jones," hailed Colter as the perfect choice for Cage, noting that the actor "embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage."
"We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life," Rosenberg added.
"Fans have longed to see Luke Cage ... and in Mike we've found the perfect actor," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television. "Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in 'Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones,' and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos."
The Jones and Cage characters will join the Iron Fist and Daredevil with their own 13-episode series, before combining for a crossover event, "The Defenders." "Daredevil," starring Charlie Cox, will debut first, sometime in early 2015.
