As excited as we are for the upcoming release of "Captain America: Civil War," there's another piece of the Marvel Universe dropping much sooner: "Daredevil" Season 2.

The second season of Netflix's hit series starts March 18 and it picks up with Matt Murdock and his city confronting an uncertain future -- just as new allies and enemies emerge.

Whether you need a quick primer for the new season, or just aren't very familiar with the Daredevil franchise, we're here to help. Here are five key things to know before returning to Hell's Kitchen.

1. There's Chaos In Hell's Kitchen
Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) may have toppled Kingpin's (Vincent D'Onofrio) regime at the end of Season 1, but that doesn't mean Hell's Kitchen has necessarily become a safer place.

As the second season opens, various criminal organizations are moving in and trying to take advantage of the power vacuum in the city. That means Murdock is busier than ever in both his law career and his side-job as a costumed vigilante. Expect that to put an even greater strain on the now shaky friendship between Matt and his partner, Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson).

2. The Punisher Returns
As the second season opens, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has already begun his devastating one-man war on crime. Assuming the show follows the source material, Castle is a decorated war veteran who loses his entire family to gang violence, and then dedicates his life to slaughtering criminals.

Daredevil and Punisher have frequently clashed in the comics because of their conflicting views on justice, and the same will hold true for this series. As Castle tells Daredevil in the Season 2 trailer, "You're a half-measure." Lots of shooting and punching will ensue. Get excited, Marvel fans.

3. Elektra Is Gonna Make Sh** Even Harder for Our Hero
The last time we saw Elektra in live-action form, she was headlining a movie best left forgotten.

Now, Elodie Yung picks up the character's signature sais -- and looks poised to go all stabby this year. Foggy alluded to the rocky history between Matt and "that Greek girl" in Season 1, and now Elektra will be a major presence in Matt's life as this ninja warrior returns to New York. Again, assuming the show follows the comics, expect the two to clash before they discover each other's true identity.

4. There's More Romantic Drama Brewing
There's something about a crusading defense attorney/vigilante hero that the ladies just find irresistible.

Look for Matt to face plenty of romantic hurdles this season as he grows closer to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) -- even as ex-girlfriend Elektra re-enters his life. That dilemma will surely complicate his relationship with Foggy, who also pines after Karen.

5. The Hand Is the Real Enemy
The Hand is an ancient ninja cult that has been a thorn in Daredevil's side for a long time. Look for these shadowy assassins to become a considerable threat in Season 2.

Daredevil clashed with their leader, Nobu (Peter Shinkoda), in the first season, and is now set to fight his soldiers. Given The Hand's penchant for resurrection, Matt may even have a rematch with Nobu himself. Also, look for Season 2 to explore both Elektra and Stick's (Scott Glenn) ties to The Hand.
