supernatural, season 12, jared padalecki, jensen acklesIn this second era of the Golden Age of Television, shows come and go at lightning speed, some series living on as one-season wonders (hello, "Freaks and Geeks"), others flaming out after only a couple weeks (goodbye, "Knock Knock Live"). So it's an achievement when an audience can remain loyal enough to keep a show on the air for more than a handful of seasons -- or in the case of CW favorite "Supernatural," a whopping 12 seasons as of this fall. And according to creator Eric Kripke, there could be many more seasons ahead.

In an interview with Collider, Kripke chatted about the show's legacy, and admitted that when he first conceived of the series, he had no idea how long it would remain on the airwaves -- and didn't think it would last anywhere near a dozen seasons.

"I was hoping and praying in the early years, fighting every season, 'Please pick us up for one more year,'" Kripke told Collider. "And I was like, 'Maybe, if I'm lucky, it'll go four.' So this is mind-blowing and humbling, and I just can't believe it."

As for how many more years the show has in it, Kripke wasn't entirely sure, but said there could conceivably be many more episodes in store, provided that both Winchester brothers (a.k.a. stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) are on board.

"As long as Jared and Jensen -- who are the heart of the show -- are up for it, then anything's possible," the creator told Collider. "There's as many episodes as there are ghost stories, and there's thousands of ghost stories. So as long as everyone's having fun, Jared and Jensen want to do it, they'll keep doing it."

Sounds super to us.

"Supernatural" returns for season 12 on October 13 on The CW.
