Now, Sonequa Martin-Green is truly ready to explore the final frontier.
The "Walking Dead" actress was cast as the lead in "Star Trek: Discovery" months ago, but the CBS All-Access show only just revealed her character's name and rank: First Officer Michael Burnham.

"Discovery" made the announcement now, since Martin-Green's "Walking Dead" character, Sasha was — SPOILER ALERT — killed off on last night's season finale. Sasha sacrificed her life and became a walker to foil Negan's dastardly plans against her friends in Alexandria.
A First Officer ranks just below the captain of a Star Fleet ship, and "Discovery" is the first show in the franchise not to focus on the captain. Executive producer Bryan Fuller has said this will allow the writers to tell new kinds of stories.
"Star Trek: Discovery" has been delayed — it was initially expected in spring, but will now debut sometime later this year on the CBS All-Access streaming service.
