"Fate's funny, huh?" Anne Hathaway quips in a new trailer for the psychological thriller "Serenity."
Maybe not so funny for Matthew McConaughey, who plays a fishing boat captain whose life is turned upside down when his ex-wife (Hathaway) tracks him down and asks him to kill her abusive current husband (Jason Clarke) by feeding him to sharks.
That's not the only thing bedeviling the captain, though. Something is very odd about the island he's on, and the atmosphere is messing with his head.
The trailer has kind of a "Lost" meets Netflix's "Bloodline" vibe — McConaughey even asks "Where in the world are we?" at one point.
The film, written and directed by Steven Knight (the creator of "Peaky Blinders") reunites "Interstellar" co-stars McConaughey and Hathaway. The cast also includes Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong.
"Serenity" opens in theaters January 25, 2019.
