We don't yet know what Christopher Nolan's next film will be, but we know when to expect it. And that it'll be big.

Warner Bros. announced today that we can expect Nolan's next film on July 17, 2020 and that we can expect it on IMAX.

Whether it'll be another war epic, like "Dunkirk" or a mind-blowing sci-fi flick like "Inception," we can't say. But an IMAX release does seem to rule out anything as small-scale as his earliest films such as "Memento" and "Following."

Nolan is, of course,  proponent of seeing movies on the big screen. He championed the restoration and exhibition of a traveling tour of Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey” in 70mm at various theaters across the country last year.

And he's still a big fan of old-fashioned film, as opposed to a digital format. At least year's Cannes Film Festival, he said, “Films that are made in an analog way ought to be presented in an analog way whenever possible. Film still stands as the best analogy for the way the eye sees. For my purposes, I find it to be the most immersive and emotionally involving tool for drawing the audience into the story."

Vive le film! We can't wait to see his next film, whatever it is.

"Dunkirk" was Nolan's first film to earn the innovative Brit a Best Director Oscar nomination. It also received nominations for Best Picture, cinematography and production design and for Hans Zimmer's score. It won three Oscars: Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
