Did your betting pool have one of the directors of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" following up his Oscar-winning turn with a "Puss in Boots" sequel?

Bob Perschietti just signed on with DreamWorks Animation to direct a sequel to the 2011 "Shrek" spin-off that spotlighted the smooth, swashbuckling kitty voiced by Antonio Banderas.

Before making his directorial debut with co-directors Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman on "Spider-Verse," Persichetti worked in animation for more than two decades. He served as Head of Story on the original "Puss in Boots," which was also nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar. (He also voiced the "Ohhh Cat.")

Latifa Ouaou, who was a producer on the original “Puss in Boots” (and who voiced several characters in the first film, including "Crazy Woman") will oversee development for Illumination.

Puss in Boots made his debut in "Shrek 2” in 2004 and appeared in the next two "Shrek" sequels before getting his own solo film in 2011.

A sequel was once announced for release in 2018, but that never happened. This project does not yet have a release date.
