A "Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" television series is under development at Hulu.

An adaptation of Douglas Adams' sci-fi comedy classic is in the works by Carlton Cuse ("Lost," "Locke & Key") and writer Jason Fuchs ("Wonder Woman"), according to Deadline.

"Hitchhiker’s Guide" is a popular British sci-fi franchise that began as a comedy radio show and then became a series of novels. From there, it spiraled into comic books, a 1981 TV series, a 1984 video game, and a 2005 feature film.

The story follows the intergalactic adventures of Arthur Dent, a hapless Englishman who is the last survivor following the demolition of the Earth by the Vogons to make way for a hyperspace bypass. Arthur escapes by hitchhiking onto a passing Vogon space ship and goes on to explore the galaxy.

Cuse and Fuchs, who are both fans of the franchise, will write and executive produce the project via ABC Signature. Disney owns the "Hitchhiker’s Guide" rights and made the 2005 film starring Martin Freeman as Arthur.
