It seems like there are always more Star Wars films on the way these days, and the latest one is a very pleasant surprise. Screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis is working on a script for a Star Wars film based on the video game "Knights of the Old Republic," according to BuzzFeed News' sources.

Released in 2003, "KOTOR" is an award-winning role-playing game that takes place in the Star Wars universe. It is set nearly 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire and pits players against Darth Malak, a Dark Lord of the Sith, who has instigated an uprising against the Republic. The game has been a favorite of fans; the Xbox version currently has a Metascore of 94 on Metacritic.

Kalogridis is reportedly close to finishing the first installment in what could be a trilogy. Prior to this project, she has worked on a number of other high-profile projects such as "Alita: Battle Angel" and "Terminator: Genisys." She co-wrote both and also executive produced the latter as well as "Avatar."

So far, Kalogridis has not commented on the "KOTOR" news, and neither has Lucasfilm or Disney. Whatever the plans, though, there's another Star Wars film coming up fast. "Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker" is due out Dec. 20.
