  • Watts is excellent as usual, but it’s a lot to ask for 10 episodes. Gypsy might have worked better at six. It feels a bit like therapy, a long slog with a couple of breakthroughs. Show More

  • The first episode of Gypsy is a tough slog, what with a dallying pace and Jean making silly voice-over pronouncements . ... Allow yourself to be taken in by Watts’s wily strategy, and Gypsy may, at its best, be viewed as an interesting character study. Show More

  • A psychological thriller of erotic obsession that doesn't lack for (pop) psychology or (repetitive) obsession, but only becomes erotic in the last few episodes and thrilling in the last 15 minutes of the final episode, Netflix's Gypsy is a reasonable star vehicle for Naomi Watts and little else.
