Even after sitting down with producer Jim Morris and director Andrew Stanton, Disney's been pretty tight-lipped when it comes to dishing out the goods and getting us excited for their upcoming sci-fi adventure 'John Carter.' That March 9, 2012, release date is still a ways away and the first teaser poster didn't give us much to go on either, but now that we've got our hands on the first trailer, all that has changed.

As far as the story is concerned, here's the scoop straight from Disney: lockquote> 'John Carter' is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. Even though we're unfamiliar with Burroughs' novel and haven't exactly had this high up on the radar as of late, now that we've seen the trailer, we are officially pumped.

Looks like 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' mixed with 'The Chronicles of Riddick,' only way more awesome than both combined. Nothing wrong with that. And if you're wondering who's behind that cover of Arcade Fire's 'My Body is a Cage,' that would be Peter-freakin'-Gabriel. We know, we never would have guessed either, but Peter Gabriel just scored himself some major points.

So what do you guys think of the 'John Carter' trailer?
