Taking a cue from the first film's killer soundtrack, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel now has an awesome title.

Director James Gunnconfirmed on Twitter that the follow-up flick will be called "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," a nod to the title of the "Guardians" soundtrack (and key plot point), "Awesome Mix Vol. 1." This can only mean that "Awesome Mix Vol. 2" -- which Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) discovered at the end of the first movie -- will play a similarly significant role in the "Guardians" sequel (or at the very least, just be a great collection of songs).

In a follow-up post on Facebook, Gunn wrote that some fans had actually already figured out the title, thanks to some super-sleuthing after Gunn posted a cover image of the flick's script. Fortunately for Gunn, though, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige accidentally let the title slip while doing press for upcoming Marvel film "Ant-Man," freeing the director to confirm the news online.

Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.Kevin Feige...

We like the title lots, both because it's on-brand for the series, but also because it eschews the tired trend of adding ridiculous, long-winded subtitles to blockbuster franchises. And that quirky choice is also in keeping with the ragtag flick's shtick of standing out from the rest of the superhero crowd; we'd expect nothing less from Star-Lord and co.

Stay tuned for more. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is due in theaters on May 5, 2017.
