Adolfo Cocchi has a building firm but his plan to build a set of buildings is been stopped by an old former Garibaldian, Don Leopoldo, who refuses to sell his property. A group of young people go to his house to play and sing. Marcella, Cocchi's daughter, who has a beautiful voice, goes to visit Leopoldo and falls in love with Paolo.
