The 72nd Cannes Film Festival unveiled its lineup Thursday morning, featuring a roster of acclaimed directors like Pedro Almodóvar, Terence Malick, and Ken Loach.

Festival director Thierry Fremaux and president Pierre Lescure kicked off the announcement with a tribute to the late iconic French director Agnès Varda.

They also highlighted the gender parity of the festival's selection committee and the growing inclusion of female directors in the lineup. Four competition films and 13 entries in the Official Selection were directed by women.

One notable film missing from the lineup is Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time," which sources had said would have its world premiere at the festival.

Fremaux said that the film is not ready yet, due to the lengthy 35mm post-production process. But it could still be added to the festival at a later date.

Also missing from the festival: any Netflix films, for the second year in a row.

The festival will open with Jim Jarmusch's zombie comedy "The Dead Don't Die," starring Bill Murray, Chloe Sevigny, Tilda Swinton and Adam Drive.

Oscar-winning Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will lead the main competition jury.
