Try not to stagger back from shock, but not *everything* out there is actually a sequel, reboot, revival, or live-action remake.

That's not to say that even "original" ideas sound all that original, since Hollywood feels safest working from basic templates.

That said, Deadline just reported that Disney OK'd a pitch for "Sadé," a live-action fairytale movie about an African princess. Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer will co-write the screenplay, based on their original idea.

Here's the rundown, from Deadline:

"It centers on a young African girl named Sadé who, when her kingdom is threatened by a mysterious evil force, accepts her newly discovered magical warrior powers to protect herself and her people. With the help of the kingdom’s prince, Sadé embarks on an adventure that will allow her to embrace what makes her special and save the kingdom."

So it's not the most original of original ideas, but at this point -- when even "Lady and the Tramp" is getting a live-action remake -- any non-repeat project that gets the green light from a major studio is a win.

"Dope" director Rick Famuyiwa is reportedly attached to produce.

Since the movie doesn't have a script yet, it may be a while before we hear more details. In the meantime, Disney will release about a thousand more sequels and live-action remakes. They'll probably be great, they usually are, but sometimes we wish for more from this fairytale world.
