It's as hard to keep up with the next "Fast and Furious" film as it is to outrace any of the racing crew.

The follow-up to 2017's "The Fate of the Furious" was first set to come out in April 19, 2019, then April 10, 2020. Today, Variety announced that Universal has pushed back the film another six weeks to May 22, 2020, which is the start of the Memorial Day weekend.

That pits it against "Godzilla vs. Kong" and "The Spongebob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge."

But that gives it more space from Bond 25, which just announced its move to April 8, 2020.

The reason for the first delay? Back in 2017, Tyrese Gibson said the "Hobbs & Shaw" spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was to blame. That opens on August 2.

According to ComicBook.com, the ninth film in the franchise will start filming this June, with locations in Los Angeles and London. Since "Hobbs & Shaw" takes place in the same locations, it's possible that the spinoff sets up the circumstances for the next film.

The franchise, which started with "The Fast and the Furious" in 2001, has grossed more than $5 billion worldwide. "Furious 7," which featured Paul Walker’s final appearance, has been the biggest moneymaker with $1.5 billion globally.
