I am a 63 year old woman, who went to college in the 60's. First a Catholic Women's college on the San Francisco peninsula, then San Jose State(when SDS and Juan Carlos were there) then UCSC. This brought back many vivid memories of those college days, frats, mixers at Stanford, USF, Moraga, rival colleges-Mills. Our self pretentious selves, oh happy days.

It might have been funnier if I could better hear what they were saying. I'm not sure whether the fault was with the soundtrack or the theater sound system, but the sound was often not as clear as it should have been.

terrible, pathetic, slow and plain boring.

A weird place with weird people, it is filled with obliquely literate dialogue that suggests a Wes Anderson-directed version of Napoleon Dynamite. Very, very funny, with an affecting set of performances, especially by the now in-demand Greta Gerwig. Whit Stillman's world demands a second viewing to completely appreciate his accomplishment in the hilarious film. GLR Orange, CA

Stillman too often substitutes pith for insight, until even that is drowned out by the sound of him chortling into his sleeve. Full Review

Even if it did not have other charms, this peculiar, uneven campus comedy would be worth seeing for the delightful felicity of its dialogue. Full Review

A movie sure to reward the filmmaker's most die-hard fans, while doing little to quiet critics who found his work self-conscious to the point of insufferability. Full Review

USA Today
These are hardly damsels, but the distress will be felt by audiences watching the collection of non sequiturs, twee remarks and tangential vignettes that is Damsels in Distress. Full Review

New York Magazine (Vulture)
Stillman's comeback comedy Damsels in Distress is wobbly and borderline twee, but it deepens as it goes along and becomes rich. Full Review
