Lords of Dogtown

PG-13| 1 hr. 46 min.

Plot Summary
A drought in 1970s Southern California has an unexpected side effect: as people empty their swimming pools, a group of teen surfers from the Dogtown area of Venice Beach move in with skateboards, and a new sport is born. Based on a true story, this film follows "Z-Boys" skate team members Stacy Peralta (John Robinson), Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) and Jay Adams (Emile Hirsch), plus manager Skip Engblom (Heath Ledger), as their fearless "pool surfing" leads to fame, fortune -- and misfortune.

  • Hardwicke whips up a frenzy of crazy-cool board action, with Alva choreographing the stunts. Even when the slippery-slope-of-success cliches halt the film's momentum, the ready-to-rock actors rev it up again. show more

  • If Lords of Dogtown accomplishes nothing else, it shows how hard writing a fiction film can be, and what a vast artistic distance can stand between a bad fiction film and the first-rate documentary that inspired it. show more

  • The film doesn't hold together in any compelling way. show more

I really liked this movie....and before I go further, I am 59y/o and really not too into "teen flicks" of the garden vareity...I liked all the actors, of course Heath...the photography was awesome...and what I really like is the fact that Ms Hardwicke is in touch with teenagers, she doesn't try to demean them, nor does she glorify, she just tells it as it is...I look forward to more of her work...

I thought this movie is a really good flick to check out. It gives you the full effect of the Dogtown legend skateboarders and the 70's. This movie is like nothing I've seen before! Good acting and the movie will keep you intrested. Lords of Dogtown is worth a watch!
