  • Renoir is so beautiful, and so intelligently conceived, that you keep waiting, in vain, for a bit of fire to break out in the narrative. show more

  • Although there is incident in the film's second half...it doesn't build to the level of compelling drama, leaving the film in a quiet, temperate realm that scarcely makes the pulse race. show more

  • Renoir doesn't present a particularly dynamic tale, and its attempts at stage-like drama — notably the sometimes epigrammatic dialogue — can seem overdone. But the performances are assured, the ambiance impeccable and the themes resonant. show more

RENOIR is amazingly photographed (n0 hand held cameras). The acting is excellent. The story is fascinating and moving. A special film! 5 STARS!

Kenneth Turan (LA Times) is WRONG! Definitely not four stars! Beautiful cinematography! Narrative is lengthy and lacking in action. Could have and should have been 20 minutes shorter with more passion to figuratively and literally awaken viewers. The cast do their best with a mediocre script.
