If I remember the movie well (I've seen it a few times) that was not Haley's bedroom, that's the dead girl's bedroom, where she told him to go to get the VHS tape, where it shows how her mother was poisoning her. The first time he saw her WAS in his bedroom, but underneath a tent he had made to hide from the dead people.

I love this film and can relate to it a bit. It's been a very long time since I watched something so good.
