Waiting for "Superman"

PG| 1 hr. 42 min.

Plot Summary
This film by director Davis Guggenheim investigates the public school system in the United States, and uncovers the many ways in which education in America has declined. Rather than relying largely on statistics and expert opinions, Guggenheim focuses on five students -- Anthony, Bianca, Daisy, Emily and Francisco -- portraying their own individual struggles and triumphs within problem-plagued academic settings where there are no easy solutions to the myriad issues that affect them.

  • This movie isn't just a necessity (listen up, do-nothing politicians) - it might change your future. show more

  • I could have done without the clips from the old "Superman" TV show - strictly sugar to make the medicine go down, and a sign that the director doesn't fully trust his audience. show more

  • This is a time when urgent issues are often explored in polemic documentaries, as well as a fateful moment when the future of public education is being debated with unprecedented intensity. Waiting for 'Superman' makes an invaluable addition to the debate. show more

Sobering look at the problems of public schools - shows what lack of competition does to schools. Arrogant Teacher Union once again looking out for the adults at the expense of the kids. Should have been voted best picture of the year. Highly recommend for all.

I am a tutor in a public school in Florida and I see first hand the problems of the education system. This documentary was very informative and it showed that not only the poorest neighborhoods and schools but every school suffers from an outdated system to provide education that worked "okay" in the 50's. This documentary should be watched by everyone as a wake up call to the reality of the future of America.
