Benedict Cumberbatch is officially a Cumberdad: The actor and his wife, Sophie Hunter, welcomed a bouncing baby boy this weekend.

A representative for the couple revealed in a statement that the child -- whose name has yet to be publicized -- was born on Saturday.

"Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son," the statement said. "We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during these next few precious weeks."

This is the first child for both Cumberbatch and Hunter, who married in a Valentine's Day ceremony this year. The couple first announced their engagement last fall (Cumberbatch, proper English gentleman that he is, took out a newspaper ad), and revealed that they were expecting earlier this year.

It's been an eventful year for Cumberbatch so far, with a wedding, an Oscar nomination for "The Imitation Game," and his recent distinction as a recipient of a CBE from Queen Elizabeth II, awarding him membership to the Order of the British Empire for his performing arts and charity work. That latter honor was announced only one day before his new son was born; seems like it was quite a good weekend for the actor.

Congrats to the happy family.
