UPDATE: Brad Pitt has made a statement about his divorce from Angelina Jolie.

"I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," he told People. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

ORIGINAL STORY:

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after two years of marriage and 12 years together, according to TMZ.

The tabloid site reports that Jolie filed legal documents citing irreconcilable differences and asking for physical custody of their six children. Pitt would only get visitation, and the site's sources say that Jolie was "extremely upset" with his parenting methods. TMZ notes there is no indication of infidelity and that the rift has solely to do with Pitt's interaction with their children.

Jolie is not seeking spousal support and the date of separation on the documents is Sept. 15, 2016. Jolie's attorney, Robert Offer, confirmed the divorce to Reuters.

"This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

The actors met on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2004, when Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. After Aniston and Pitt divorced in early 2005, Pitt and Jolie's romance became public. In 2006, Jolie gave birth to their first biological child, Shiloh. Pitt also legally adopted Jolie's two children, Maddox and Zahara; adopted another child, Pax; and had two biological twins, Knox and Vivienne. The couple married in August 2014.
