Amy Schumer might be a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world.

The comedian and actress is in talks to star in and co-write the script of Sony's live-action "Barbie" movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is described as a "a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism and identity."

Sony and Mattel have been developing the project for some time. Last year, they hired three writers to turn in scripts, and ended up choosing Hilary Winston's. Schumer and sister Kim Caramele are expected to rewrite it. A director has yet to be hired.

The story begins with a woman in a land of perfect Barbies who realizes she doesn't fit in. She journeys to the real world, where she finds being unique is an asset. Schumer's casting seems to indicate Mattel wants to shake up Barbie's image of stick-thin beauty.
