"Criminal Minds" Season 12 viewers have already been on a roller-coaster ride with the whole Hotch thing, but another big twist is coming next week. Executive producer Erica Messer told Entertainment Weekly that the CBS show is about to reveal some personal history about "one of our heroes." That intel will not only affect his or her professional life, but also the direction of the rest of the season.
"This is something our team has never had to deal with," Messer told EW. "After 12 years of telling stories about our heroes, we are entering into the unknown. We are not a serialized drama and yet the back nine of season 12 will be heavily serialized. I think the audience will be shocked that we went in this direction with one of our heroes. They won't see this coming."
She said they will "still have a bad guy of the week," but there will now be a storyline running through the rest of Season 12 "that will be unlike anything we have ever done."
Which character is involved? She would not say. However, EW said this particular storyline is meant to start Wednesday, Feb. 1. See if you can catch any clues from CBS's full press release for that episode, titled "Surface Tension":
