Dan StevensThe official synopsis for Dan Stevens' upcoming film "Apostle," has just been released, as well as a first photo that was shared by "The Raid" director Gareth Evans.

The busy actor (whose films so far this year include "Beauty and the Beast," "Colossal," "The Ticket," and "Norman," not to mention starring on the FX series "Legion" and his upcoming sci-fi thriller "Kill Switch" ) will be trying to save his sister from cultists in the period drama.

Here's the official synopsis, via XYZ Films' page:

The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she's kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.

Since this is from Evans, the director of the kickass actions films "The Raid: Redemption" and "The Raid 2," we might expect wall-to-wall action, but that doesn't sound like the case at all. Stevens previously told Empire, "It's not a kung fu film, sadly. I hope to make a kung fu film with him one day, but this is not it." He described the film as "a dark thriller."

It costars Michael Sheen, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Bill Milner, Kristine Froseth, and Paul Higgins. It's expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2018.

If Stevens is in the photo below, we're having a hard time recognizing him:
