Yes, Ian Somerhalder is starring in another vampire drama -- but he's not the vampire this time.

It's clear, though, that he'll still be spending a lot of time with blood.

Mr. Smolderhotter stars in the upcoming Netflix series "V-Wars" and he shared the first look at his character, Dr. Luther Swann:

Good question. Would you trust that doc? That bloody hand. Bloody knuckles. What's the story there?

The series is based on the IDW anthology series "V-Wars: Chronicles of the Vampire Wars" by Jonathan Maberry. Here's more on "V-Wars" from THR:

"[Dr. Luther Swann] enters a world of horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these vampires. Swann races against time to understand what's happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires."

Adrian Holmes plays Michael Fayne.

Jacky Lai plays Kaylee Vo, described by Deadline as "a struggling young online journalist – a would-be Assange who will do or say almost anything to advance her career. A fierce, funny, hustling fringe player, she breaks the biggest story imaginable and soon finds herself a key part of that story with a growing list of deadly enemies."

Peter Outerbridge plays Calix Niklos, described as "an elegant, malicious science expert on the Homeland Security Team." Laura Vandervoort will play a character named Mila; Kyle Breitkopf plays Dez; and Kimberly-Sue Murray is Danika.

The initial report on this series, from back in April, said Ian Somerhalder was planning to also direct some episodes. Somerhalder -- who is married to "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed -- played Damon Salvatore on "The Vampire Diaries" from 2009 to 2017. He also became a producer on the show, and directed a few episodes.

Brad Turner directed the pilot episode of the Netflix series, and also executive produced. No word yet on the premiere date.
