Idris Elba is finally wearing his rightful crown as People's Sexiest Man Alive.

“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?'” the actor tells People in this week’s cover story. “Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”

The 46-year-old actor first broke through as the whip-smart Stringer Bell in "The Wire" and went on to star in the acclaimed British crime drama "Luther." He's also racked up a string of major movie credits, including the "Thor" franchise and "Avengers: Infinity War," "Molly's Game," and "Beasts of No Nation" (for which he received a Golden Globe nomination).

Elba is the 33rd Sexiest Man Alive, following last year's choice of Blake Shelton.

He's got a busy schedule coming up. The actor is currently filming "Hobbs & Shaw," the "Fast and Furious" spinoff. He also DJs and produces and contributes to other musicians' work.

But Elba always takes time out for his children,  a 16-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son.

“I’m super doting, big hugs, kisses, lots of love-yous. I’m sure my daughter’s like, ‘All right Dad, chill out.’ My son is still at that age where he loves a cuddle.”
