Ready to play ball again in "The Sandlot"?

A sequel television series following up the beloved 1993 film is in the works.

The movie's director, David Mickey Evans, recently revealed on the baseball podcast The Rain Delay that an unnamed streaming service has greenlit a TV series starring the original cast members.

The original movie centered on a group of ragtag kids bonding over baseball in the summer of 1962. While it wasn't a box office hit, the movie became a cult hit on home video.

Evans wouldn't say much else about the sequel, but did reveal when it would take place.

"It takes place in 1984 when they're all like 33 years old and they all have children of their own. And that's all I can tell you," Evans said.

It sounds like this "Sandlot" show could be similar to "Cobra Kai," the YouTube series follow-up to "The Karate Kid." It, too, stars original cast members Ralph Maccio and William Zabka, all grown up, and their kids.

Interestingly, the ending of "The Sandlot" revealed what happened to all the characters. It's unclear if the TV series will incorporate that or just ignore it:
