The Razor's Edge - Questioning Knowledge and Understanding

Mackenzie: [[w:Upanishads|Upanishads] You've never read the ]? You don't know so much... you really don't know anything do you?

The Razor's Edge - A Caution Against Lending Books

Mackenzie: I never lend books to coal miners. They've got dirty hands.

Les Misérables - Redemption Through Faith and Forgiveness

Bishop: Now don't forget, don't ever forget, you've promised to become a new man.
Jean Valjean: Promise? Wha, Why are you doing this?
Bishop: Jean Valjean my brother you no longer belong to evil. With this silver, I have bought your soul. I've ransomed you from fear and hatred, and now I give you back to God.

Les Misérables - Questioning Intentions in a Tense Exchange

Mme. Gilot: [sharing their meal] What crime did you commit?
Jean Valjean: Maybe I killed someone... How do you know I'm not going to murder you?
Bishop: How do you know I'm not going to murder you?
Jean Valjean: What is that - a joke?
Bishop: I guess we'll have to trust each other.

The Crucible - Land Dispute Among Neighbors

Thomas Putnam: I warned you once before, Proctor! That's my lumber! You're in my bounds!
John Proctor: My land's always run up through the forest, and I haven't sold any, Putnam.
Thomas Putnam: It is clear in my grandfather's will. My land...
Giles Corey: Your grandfather damn near willed away my north pasture! But he knew I'd break his arm if he tried it. Go on!

Brazil - Questioning the Cost of Crime on Society

Mr. Helpmann: Why should decent law-abiding citizens have to subsidize criminals?
Interviewer: But Mr. Helpmann, the bombing campaign is now in its thirteenth year.
Mr. Helpmann: [[luck] Beginner's ].

Brazil - The Cost of Information and Accountability

Interviewer: What do you believe is behind this recent increase in terrorist bombings?
Mr. Helpmann: Bad sportsmanship. A ruthless minority of people seems to have forgotten certain good old-fashioned virtues. They just can't stand seeing the other fellow win. If these people would just play the game, they'd get a lot more out of life.
Interviewer: Nevertheless, Mr. Helpmann, there are those who maintain that the Ministry of Information has become too large and unwieldy...And the cost of it all, Deputy Minister? Seven percent of the gross national product.
Mr. Helpmann: I understand this concern on behalf of the tax payers. People want value for money. That's why we always insist on the principle of Information Retrieval charges. It's absolutely right and fair that those found guilty should pay for their periods of detention and for the Information Retrieval Procedures used in their interrogation.
Interviewer: Do you believe that the government is winning the battle against terrorists?
Mr. Helpmann: Oh, yes. Our morale is much higher than theirs. We're fielding all their strokes, running a lot of them out, and pretty consistently knocking them for six. I'd say they're nearly out of the game.

Brazil - The Ghost in the Machine

Mr. Helpmann: Ere I am, J.H. ...The ghost in the machine.

Brazil - Stay Focused Until the End

Mr. Helpmann: All I can say is don't fall at the last fence. The finishing post's in sight. See you in the paddock... keep your eye on the ball.

Brazil - Acknowledgment of Loss and Resignation

Mr. Helpmann: Jill? Yes... Sam I think I ought to tell you. I'm afraid she's upped stumps and retired to the pavilion. Thrown in the towel.
