'Adventures in Babysitting' Cast: Where Are They Now?

Moviefone
June 22, 2016 - 1 min read

The Disney Channel remake of "Adventures in Babysitting" debuts June 24, but to viewers of a certain age, the original 1987 film still brings back fond memories. Here's what's become of the cast since that crazy night in Chicago 29 years ago.

Elisabeth Shue (Chris Parker)

Elisabeth Shue (Chris Parker)

"Karate Kid" love interest Elisabeth Shue was 23 when she was cast as intrepid sitter Chris Parker, her first top-billed role in a Hollywood movie. She went on to prominent roles in "Cocktail," "Back to the Future Part II" and "III," and "Leaving Las Vegas" (for which she earned an Oscar nomination).  She transitioned to TV as a star of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (pictured) from 2012 to 2015. Now 52, Shue is set to appear next year alongside Emma Stone and Steve Carell in the film "Battle of the Sexes."

Maia Brewton (Sara Anderson)

Maia Brewton (Sara Anderson)

At 9, Brewton was already a veteran movie and TV actress when she landed the "Babysitting" role of Thor-obsessed kid Sara. She also co-starred as the title character's sister for three seasons on Fox's "Parker Lewis Can't Lose." She left showbiz for college but had a hard time after graduation finding work as a former child star. She quit acting, became a lawyer, married TV producer Lara Spotts, and became a stay-at-home mom to their two kids. Spotts works at Bravo, the cable channel on whose series "Odd Mom Out" the 38-year-old Brewton made a cameo appearance last summer.

Keith Coogan (Brad Anderson)

The grandson of actor Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester on "The Addams Family"), Keith Coogan was 16 when he played lovestruck Brad in "Babysitting." He went on to appear in such movies as "Toy Soldiers" and "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead," and "In the Army Now." Now 46, Coogan played himself last year on web sitcom "The Comeback Kids."

Anthony Rapp (Daryl Coopersmith)

Anthony Rapp (Daryl Coopersmith)

Rapp was a 14-year-old veteran child actor when he played Brad's pal Daryl in "Babysitting." He went on to act in such films as "Dazed and Confused" and "A Beautiful Mind." But he may be best known for creating the role of Mark Cohen in the Broadway musical "Rent," a role he's reprised in several tours and revivals over the last 20 years, as well as in the 2005 film version (pictured). Most recently, Rapp, now 44, had a guest arc last year on "The Knick."

Vincent D'Onofrio (Dawson)

Vincent D'Onofrio (Dawson)

D'Onofrio is such a chameleon that you'd scarcely have recognized the 28-year-old who played Thor-esque mechanic Dawson in "Babysitting" as the same actor who played the obese, tormented Private Gomer Pyle in "Full Metal Jacket," released in theaters just a week later. On TV, he starred for 10 years as Detective Bobby Goren on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." At 56, D'Onofrio currently appears as crime lord Wilson Fisk on Netflix's "Daredevil" and will play the Wizard in this fall's NBC series "Emerald City."

Penelope Ann Miller (Brenda)

At 22, Broadway actress Miller landed her first major movie role in "Babysitting" as Chris's stranded friend Brenda. She went on to co-star in such films as "Big Top Pee-Wee," "Kindergarten Cop," and "Carlito's Way." She starred on the first season of "American Crime" in 2015 and will next be seen in the Sundance smash "The Birth of a Nation," due in theaters October 2016.

George Newbern (Dan Lynch)

Helpful, handsome frat boy Dan was the first big film role for 21-year-old Newbern. He famously went on to star as bridegroom Bryan in the "Father of the Bride" movies. His most notable work post-"Babysitting" was in various DC Comics cartoons, where he voiced Superman. Now 51, Newbern has a recurring role as former CIA agent Charlie on "Scandal."

Bradley Whitford (Mike Todwell)

Whitford was 26 when he played Chris's cheating high school boyfriend, Mike. He went on to film roles in such movies as "Billy Madison" before finding fame on TV on "The West Wing." He''s starred in some short-lived series since then, including "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and ABC's "Trophy Wife" (pictured). Now 56, Whitford is back in the White House again as Vice President Hubert Humphrey in the current HBO movie "All the Way."
