Cuphead and his brother Mugman are headed to Netflix with the new animated series "The Cuphead Show!"

Since launching in 2017, the massively popular game from studio Studio MDHR has sold 4 million copies. It won the best independent game award at the 2017 Game Awards and a BAFTA for its music.

The "run and gun" game features hand-drawn animations inspired by the classic Max Fleischer cartoons of the 1930s.

"The Cuphead Show!" will expand on the title character's adventures as he and his brother try to pay off their gambling debt to the devil.

This will be the first longform animated series production for King Features, which also own rights to classic comic characters Popeye, Garfield, and Archie.

It's the latest video game to be adapted into a TV series, after "The Witcher" on Netflix, "Halo" on Showtime, and a planned "Myst" series and film from Village Roadshow.
