9 Anti-Romance Movies to Binge Watch on Valentine's Day

Does love stink? A lot of cinema points to the fact that it might. For every dozen or so rom-coms, there's a film out there that shows the downsides to saying "I love you." Look no further then these nine very un-romantic films.

'Blue Valentine' (2010)

Warning: This movie is NOT like "La La Land," aside from the fact that Ryan Gosling is in it and they tap dance for a few seconds. If you need a break from the warm and fuzzies for the bleak and sadsies, look no further then this drama about one couple's slow descent into splitsville.

'Closer' (2004)

Can you really trust anyone? Are all humans garbage people? Does everyone cheat? These are just a few of questions you may ask yourself and the world while watching this adaptation of the stirring play about a tangled group of lovers who inevitably just end up hurting each other.

'Kill Bill: Vol 2.' (2004)

You always hurt the one you love. Or loved. Especially when he tried to murder you, your fiancé, and all of your friends once. This is probably the messiest, bloodiest, and most effed up post-relationship saga there is.

'Unfaithful' (2002)

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes a steamy affair with a mysterious stranger who has a crazy nice Soho apartment. Then everything goes horribly, horribly wrong.

'The Break-Up' (2006)

"I want you to want to do the dishes." Oh, the arguments that couples have! Although it's sad to watch a relationship fall apart, this movie will remind you that when you're single nobody asks you to do the dishes, go to the ballet, or do anything you don't want to.

'The Lobster' (2016)

Arguably the most bizarre movie of 2016, "The Lobster" explores a future where single people must enter The Hotel, a twisted retreat that forces them to find a partner within 45 days. What happens if they can't? They get transformed into the animal of their choosing. Kind of takes the fun out of dating, eh?

'500 Days of Summer' (2009)

When one person in a relationship claims they don't actually believe in love, somebody is bound to get hurt. "500 Days of Summer" has a lot of the makings of a gushy rom-com, with a realist edge.

'The War of the Roses' (1989)

If you want to watch the angry, bitter, hysterical, exhausting disintegration of a marriage unfold, look no further then the dark divorce-com "The War of the Roses." Let's just say you shouldn't expect a happy ending.

'Gone Girl' (2014)

You know that part of the relationship where everything is peachy and you just want to make the other person happy? Yeah, "Gone Girl" isn't really about that. It's about what happens after, and all the really messed up things that could potentially go down. Like, faking-your-own murder messed up.
