A classic children's tale is getting a new big screen adaptation, with an Oscar winner set to play the title role.

"Black Beauty," first published back in 1877 by British author Anna Sewell, will once again become a film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this time featuring Kate Winslet as the voice of the titular wild horse. The story is told as an autobiography from Black Beauty's perspective, and this version will chronicle her bond with a 17-year-old girl who has just lost both her parents.

Mackenzie Foy ("Nutcracker and the Four Realms," "Interstellar," "The Conjuring") is set to play the grieving teen. Director Ashley Avis ("Adolescence") will helm this feature, from her own adaptation of Sewell's novel.

It's unclear how closely Avis's script will follow the plot of the original story, whose various chapters chronicle a wide variety of people and locations that Beauty encounters. It's unclear just how much time will be spent on the horse's interactions with Foy's character, but we like Winslet's casting here (the most famous recent version, a 1994 movie, featured Alan Cumming as the voice of Beauty), and are willing to follow wherever the filmmakers lead us.

The project will be shopped at the Cannes Film Festival this month. Stay tuned to see who scoops it up.
